    But where steampunk is Victorian, weird westerns are darker, grittier; in a weird western, the protagonist might be gunned down in a duel, killed by a vampire, or confronted by aliens on the streets of a dusty frontier town. A stand-out story for me is �Brownlee�s Blue Flame�, in which Death witnesses something never seen before. Love stories (no matter how fantastic yours is) - this is a horror only anthology. Davis was his usual rockstar self, setting the enthusiastic tone for each major screening by being both hype man and filmmaker advocate.

Either way, pick up old copies if you must, the voices are still strong and original, with work by authors such as Ron Rash, George Singleton, Dorothy Allison, and Wells Tower. So they experimented with a film called Dr. McMahon, Gary “Only Bleeding,” Horror Uncut. For example, Joe Lansdale writes 'horror' in 'western' settings, while his novel The Drive-In ensnares rural rednecks. Dreamy, eerie, comically just...it's the one that induced the largest smile.

    Even the jump scares have a deeper meaning.     Lists like this one are as subjective as they are spooky. I use a very mathematical way to assign an overall score to an anthology film (I’ll post examples below). Also known as THE OFFSPRING, Jeff Burr's fearsome foursome of horror shorts in A WHISPER TO A SCREAM bring a little American '80s camp and kitsch to the proceedings in a way that's bereft in many of the '70s Amicus films. This call for submissions is aimed particularly at marginalized writers, especially those who are identify as members of a minority, LGBTQ, and particularly those themselves who do not identify as abled or neurotypical.

    Wonderfully paradoxical creatures, much like the birds they are (in their most practical forms) meant to scare away. A notable twist on the genre was Grim Prairie Tales, where Western themes were combined with horror. The film has that amusing B movie flair which is very enjoyable and original.
